Nadiem Amiri’s form surge and return to the German national team continues to fuel speculation about whether to 28-year-old will depart Mainz 05 this summer. Amid all the speculation of a move abroad, Sport Bild reports that a transfer within the Bundesliga could be a possibility with RB Leipzig reportedly interested in bring Amiri to Saxony.
Whether or not the Ludwigshafen-native remains interested in leaving Mainz remains to be seen. Amiri seems comfortable at the small-market club close to his home and never misses an opportunity to take ownership in the surprising success story on the Rhein. The Rheinhessen currently occupy third place in the Bundesliga table and are on course to qualify for the Champions League.
Amiri signed with Mainz last winter and extended his contract in May 2024. His current deal runs until 2028. His form thus far this season has enabled him to pump his estimated market value up from a career low of €4m in December 2023 back up to €11m today.
Naturally, most German football watchers would agree that Amiri is worth far more than that. Should he continue to shine for both club and country, the German Red Bulls may need to shell out two to three times that amount.
