It’s by no means a foregone conclusion that Lucas Paqueta will leave West Ham this summer, but the Hammers are already preparing for such an eventuality.
Even before Julen Lopetegui was sacked, reports were circling that Paqueta wants to return to Brazil.
Lucas Paqueta move could open doors for young Belgian
Undoubtedly the most skilful player within the Hammers squad, the 27-year-old has often flattered to deceive, and one journalist even suggested West Ham should sell him.
To that end, it’s understood that the Irons are considering replacing him with Atalanta’s young Belgian international Charles De Ketelaere, according to sources close to the East London club.

Per transfermarkt, the 23-year-old has an impressive resume, with 98 G/A in 261 career appearances across all levels.
Although the player only recently signed a contract extension, the lure of the Premier League could be something that appeals to De Ketelaere, and sources have also indicated that West Ham won’t have it all their own way in negotiations either.
West Ham will have serious competition for Lucas Paqueta replacement
That’s because all of Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Arsenal are all keeping an eye on the situation.
Whilst it’s only West Ham that have registered a concrete interest thus far, should any of the English top-flight heavyweights come into the picture, with respect, it’s likely to be a foregone conclusion that the attacking midfielder might end at one or the other.
As a player who can play just as well as an attacking midfielder or out on the right wing, there are ample reasons as to why he’s a sought-after commodity at this point in time.
I CRIED in my car the day I left Man Utd!” – which United legend has hit out at the “lies” about his time at Old Trafford?
For example, the Cityzens see De Ketelaere as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne should the Florian Wirtz transfer fail, as his performances have attracted considerable interest.
Atalanta’s asking price is not expected to be extravagant, but AC Milan’s 10% sell-on clause could increase the value of any transaction.
