In a statement published by La Provence, Chancel Mbemba (30) via his lawyer has hit back at the rumours that he is looking to wait out his contract until the end of the season when he can leave as a free agent thereby denying Olympique de Marseille a transfer fee.
The Marseille-based news outlet state that according to Mbemba’s entourage interest from Stade Rennais and Saudi Arabian side Al-Fetah did not result in an approach, while Marseille are thought to be demanding €3 million for the centre-back.
His lawyer, Grégory Ernes, writes, “The information circulating is false. Since his arrival in Marseille as a free transfer, Mbemba has always had an exemplary attitude towards the club. However, today, reads that he would reject any offer that would be made for him. That is completely false. He has not received the slightest concrete offer.”
Ernes continues by placing the blame on Mbemba’s current team alleging, “It is the significant sum demanded that puts off potentially interested clubs. Since no exit doors open, he has no choice but to act like the committed professional that he is. He will respect his club and honour his contractual commitments.”
Mbemba’s lawyer finally adds “If an offer were to come forward, Mbemba would be delighted to examine it seriously and transparently, so that a solution can be found to the interest of all.”
Will there be a solution for Marseille and Mbemba before February the 3rd?
Mbemba was placed in the “loft” over the summer and only returned to training in mid-October. However, despite being part of training sessions, Mbemba has not played a minute of club football this season and could spend the entire campaign on the sidelines if an exit does not materialise before the end of the current transfer window.
