kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen will now look to boost their options within the squad, especially after the injury to Martin Terrier on Saturday evening.
The main area of improvement will be the attack. Leverkusen want a player who can replace Florian Wirtz as there is no player in the current squad who can replicate the 21-year-old’s creativity.
This is not only as a backup option but also contingency planning for when Wirtz eventually does leave the BayArena. Leverkusen looked to improve this area previously and showed an interest in Desire Doue who moved to PSG last summer.
This area has always been an area of improvement, but the injury to Terrier has increased the urgency for this replacement. As reported by Sky Germany, Leverkusen are one of the teams interested in Lyon’s Rayan Cherki. The 21-year-old is available for €22m this month.
Defence could also be an area that Leverkusen look to add numbers in as there is no backup option for Alejandro Grimaldo or Piero Hincapié following the injury to Jeanuël Belocian at the beginning of the year.
