Manchester City attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva (30) has opened up on TF1 Sunday football show Téléfoot on the Cityzens’ struggles this season. City have lost six times already in the Premier League, which is more times than Bournemouth or Fulham. Key City players like Ballon d’Or winner Rodri or Kevin De Bruyne were hit by injuries, but Silva considers it is not an excuse to explain the Skyblues’ disappointing season.
“Injuries have made a big difference“, Silva ponders. “For me, Kevin De Bruyne is City’s greatest-ever player. But we won two Premier Leagues and Kevin missed like six months in those two seasons. Of course, we’re much better off with Kevin and Rodri.” The Portugal international underlines how City can’t find excuses nor rely on a player to perform. “Injuries can’t alone explain why we win so little games.“
Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions are only eighth in the English first-tier standings, fifteen points from table-topping Liverpool FC. According to Silva, City won’t be able to win a record fifth Premier League trophy in a row. “In football, I never believe anything is over, but we can’t think about it. Our goal is to win the next game, not to be champions. It’s almost impossible.“
Bernardo Silva’s Manchester City face Ipswich Town FC this Sunday before Wednesday’s decisive Champions League outing against Ligue 1 champions PSG.
