AS Monaco have secured the signing of Ivorian prospect Valy Konaté (18). The defender will join up with the club’s academy side.
Konaté joins from Ivory Coast outfit Racing Club Abidjan, having integrated the first-team set-up at the age of just 15. He has also featured for the Ivory Coast U17 and U20 sides, playing for the latter at the age of just 17. The left-back looked on as Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last year.
At Monaco, Konaté will join up with compatriot Wilfried Singo, who played a big part in Ivory Coast’s triumph in early 2024. He will initially join the Principality club’s Groupe Élite, managed by former Liverpool defender Djimi Traoré. The academy side is this season competing in the UEFA Youth League and have already ensured their qualification for the next phase of the competition.
Konaté, whose deal with Les Monégasques runs until 2029, could make his debut for his new club when they face FC Liefering on Friday.
