It always looked like an uphill task for FC Tours to qualify for the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. The National 3 (fifth-tier) side were scheduled to welcome Ligue 2 side FC Lorient over the weekend with a place in the next round of the prestigious Coupe de France on the line.
For many of the amateur players, it was a chance of a lifetime, however, ultimately no ball was kicked. Just hours ahead of the scheduled kick-off on Saturday, Tours announced that they had not put in place the necessary security measures in order to host the event. 7,000 fans were expected at the stadium.
An FFF commission has now ruled that the match will not be played at a later date. Instead, Lorient have qualified for the next round, Tours, meanwhile are out of the competition. The National 3 side announced on Facebook that they would be appealing the decision.
