Manchester United’s search for a new left-back is reportedly in “full swing”, as journalist Florian Plettenberg provides an exciting update on two potential targets in that position.
It seems a new left-back is a top priority for Man Utd’s new manager Ruben Amorim, as CaughtOffside previously reported, with Ben Chilwell and Alvaro Carreras among the names being considered by the Red Devils.
Now Plettenberg has an update, saying that Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez are also on United’s list of targets, though both are big names that would likely be highly ambitious for the Premier League giants right now…

NEW: Amorim READY to let Man Utd star join rivals!
United fans would surely welcome Davies or Hernandez, as both are among the very finest left-backs in Europe, while they could also represent good market opportunities.
Davies is due to be a free agent in summer 2025 as he nears the end of his Bayern contract, while Hernandez could perhaps be realistically available for below his true market value due to being out of contract with Milan in 2026.
MUFC would do well to land one of these big names, but it might not be easy until Amorim can really shows he’s the man to turn this under-achieving club around.
How could Man United line up with new signings?
Earlier today, we took a look at a potential United line up Amorim could field with some signings who could be both ‘dream’ targets whilst also being realistically attainable.
See below for the line up we came up with, with Carreras at left wing-back surely a very acceptable alternative to Davies or Hernandez…
United fans will hope the left-hand side issue can be sorted out soon, but a new striker would also make sense as a priority, with Amorim perhaps doing well to raid his old club Sporting Lisbon for Viktor Gyokeres.
