According to Florian Plettenberg, Aston Villa are monitoring Werder Bremen midfielder Romano Schmid.
It is understood that the Premier League outfit have sent scouts to attend a plethora of Bremen fixtures this season.
This has led to Unai Emery’s side making formal enquiries for the Austrian international with an eye to lure him to Villa Park during the January transfer window.
Despite this, Villa would be willing to wait until the summer to ensure they land the 24-year-old’s signature.
However, they would have to compete with a number of other top European sides who have also shown appreciation towards Schmid.
As stated in the report, it is expected that Die Werderaner would demand a fee of €10 million for the attacking midfielder, who remains under contract at the Weserstadion until 2026.
So far this season, Schmid has registered one goal and two assists for Bremen in 13 appearances in all competitions.
