Speaking at his Wednesday pre-match presser, FC Augsburg trainer Jess Thorup declared attacker Ruben Vargas ready for minutes against Bayern.
Bundesliga play resumes this coming Friday night with an excellent offering between Bavarian neighbors FC Augsburg and FC Bayern München. Jess Thorup’s Bavarian Swabians will head to the Allianz Arena to take on the German record champions to kick off the 2024/25 campaign’s 11th match-day.
Thorup’s team – while obviously the underdogs – will at least have one more option in attack. Speaking at his Wednesday presser, FCA trainer Thorup confirmed that Swiss attacker Ruben Vargas will be ready for minutes after recuperating from the ankle injury that kept him sidelined since match-day six.
In Vargas’ absence, Thorup has found some success with the attacking duo of Philipp Tietz and Alexis Claude-Maurice. The limits of this tandem were nevertheless laid bare during the 0-0 draw with Hoffenheim just prior to the international break.
Thorup spoke of “difficult choices [to make in attack[] at his Wednesday press conference. The Fuggerstädter did light it up in a test fixture with a 7-0 win over another one of their Bavarian neighbors, FC Ingolstadt 04.
“Ruben is fit, though not yet ready for 90 minutes,” Thorup said, “There are tough choices. I personally believe something is possible [against the favorites].”
