Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund’s outgoing CEO of Sport Hans-Joachim Watzke tried to bring Jürgen Klopp back to the club.
It is said that two and a half years ago, Watzke offered Klopp any job that he wanted at the club that would be tailored to his needs if he was ready to return to the club. Watzke was even prepared to make Klopp his successor when he would eventualy step aside as CEO.
Klopp decline and would extend his contract at Liverpool in 2022 and closing the Dortmund chapter in his career.
Last week, it was announced that Klopp was to become Red Bull’s global head of soccer which involves advising all Red Bull clubs: Leipzig, Salzburg, New York and Bragatino on coaching matters, philosophy, player development as well as transfers surrounding players and coaches.
While Dortmund has hired Lars Ricken as Watzke’s successor as the long time CEO will step down from his role at the club in 2025.
