Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Monday announced that a leading member of the club’s backline has penned fresh terms with the club.
The player in question? Ferland Mendy.
The subject of left-back Mendy’s future had of course long proven a central talking point in the Spanish capital, ahead of the expiration of his contract in the summer of 2025.
Amid long-standing links with Bayern Munich standout Alphonso Davies, it had been suggested that the France international could be sacrificed to make room for the Canadian.
This, however, will not prove to be the case.
At the request of head coach Carlo Ancelotti, Mendy has seen his Real Madrid deal renewed, for what is understood to be the coming three seasons.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday evening, Real’s headmaster confirmed as much, announcing:
“Ferland Mendy has renewed his contract. We are delighted with him.”
An official statement on the part of Real Madrid is expected to follow in short order.
