Denis Zakaria (27) has thrived since joining AS Monaco. When he joined the Principality club at the start of the 2023/24 season to work with Adi Hütter for the third time in his career, he did so with a career to rebuild.
The previous season, he had featured sparingly at Chelsea, whilst on loan from Juventus. When he returned to the Serie A side, after Chelsea didn’t exercise their purchase option, he discovered he did not have a future. He therefore joined Monaco. In his first season, he excelled alongside Youssouf Fofana, leading Les Monégasques back to the UEFA Champions League.
Following Wissam Ben Yedder’s departure in the summer, the Switzerland international was nominated captain of AS Monaco. In six games in all competitions this season, he already has two goals and one assist. Speaking to DAZN after Monaco’s latest Ligue 1 victory, against Le Havre AC, Zakaria described joining the club as “one of the best decisions of [his] career.”
“Honestly, I am very happy to be here and to be able to play for this club. It was important for me to have this environment to progress. Coming to AS Monaco was one of the best decisions of my career and I will give everything for this club to allow us to be as successful as possible,” said Zakaria.
