Liverpool may already have their replacement for Mohamed Salah in the form of in-form Colombian forward Luis Diaz, according to pundit Troy Deeney.
Salah has been one of Liverpool’s most important players in recent years and arguably one of the very finest attacking players in world football for a good chunk of the last decade, so it won’t be easy for anyone at Anfield once he eventually moves on.
The Egypt international is in the final year of his Liverpool contract, so the Reds may soon have to deal with the reality of bringing someone else in to be their main man up front.
Still, writing for his BBC Sport column as he named his Premier League team of the week, former Watford man Deeney heaped praise onto Diaz, making what he admitted was a big claim by naming him as the potential long-term heir to Salah.
Salah transfer: What next for Liverpool’s star player?
Discussing Salah and Diaz, Deeney said: “On the right for Liverpool he (Diaz) was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.
“I appreciate this is a massive statement but it made me think if Liverpool do let Mohamed Salah go, he could take over as the main man.
“He was excellent, left foot, right foot. He ran short and ran long. His enthusiasm to play football was brilliant and both his goals were unbelievable as well. Fantastic, fantastic.”
Fabrizio Romano has also spoken about Salah’s future recently, giving some exclusive insight to CaughtOffside over the former Roma man’s situation.
“I think there is still a very concrete chance to see Mo Salah leaving, but what I’m sure about is that there will be conversations,” Romano said.
“There will be negotiations with Liverpool so it’s not over between Liverpool and Salah. The situation is still very much open. So again, there is a possibility to leave for sure, but it’s not guaranteed.”
