Bayern Munich bulldozed their way through Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday night, as they led in nearly every statistical category on Matchday 1.

Bayern easily controlled the contest with 60% possession, but looked like an unstoppable force especially in the first half. Frankfurt were unable to record any significant chances on goal with just 2 shots on target in comparison to Bayern’s 10.

The Bavarian club completed 637 passes with an 87% pass accuracy, while Frankfurt were only able to manage 373 for 78%. Wonderkid Jamal Musiala score a brace and was absolutely brilliant going forward, leading both teams with 18 duels won.

Filip Kostic wasn’t his usual self because Bayern stopped much of Frankfurt’s attacks before they even got started. Joshua Kimmich wreaked havoc throughout the game with a distance run of 12.4 km, the most ground covered by anyone in the match. No one in the league can stop Alphonso Davies when healthy, as he reached a rapid top speed of 35.97 km/hr.

Moral of the story? Bayern hounded Frankfurt whenever they had possession and didn’t allow them to get into any sort of rhythm. The beautiful football Frankfurt played against Magdeburg just a week ago failed to make an appearance. Nagelsmann’s side were able to quickly win the ball back, while being fairly clinical in front of goal to score 6 goals with an xG of 4.31.

While Robert Lewandowski is of course badly missed, his absence gives Nagelsmann more flexibility in his system. Bayern created lots of confusion with players who are willing to press and defend. This led to one of the most clinical first-half performances in recent memory.
