Serie A side Roma are interested in Rennes defender Arthur Theate and have made initial contact for the Belgian.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Daniele de Rossi has asked for a new centre-back who can be an upgrade over Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla and Florent Ghisolfi has identified Theate as a target.
He was close to joining Roma last summer until Rennes postponed talks. Now, Ghisolfi’s presence can be key and Enzo le Fee’s presence at Roma can also bring the Belgian to the Giallorossi.
No talks have been held with Rennes but Roma have been in touch with Theate’s entourage. He is valued at €20 million and that includes bonuses. The player would be interested in a move to Roma and is ready to sign a five-year deal while earning €2 million a season.
Theate has the desire to play in the Serie A again and matches what the Friedkins want in the new signings.
