Manchester United star Anthony Martial is one reason why Erik ten Hag will look to sign a new forward in the next transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Frenchman continues to pick up injuries, and Jones says that will convince United to buy a striker even more.
What is the latest injury news involving Martial?
Martial missed the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with Newcastle United over the weekend due to a back problem.
“A problem in his back,” Ten Hag told BT Sport after the 26-year-old had to be taken off injured against Everton last weekend. “But he was important; an assist on the goal for Antony so I’m happy with that.”
This season, Martial has also had issues with his Achilles and hamstring, which have kept him out of several games.
It has been the story of Martial’s United career, with the France international having struggled to remain fit since his £58m move (via BBC Sport) from AS Monaco back in 2015.

What has Jones said about Martial and United?
Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Martial’s injury problems are one reason why United will look to sign a new forward in January.
Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: “It’s not entirely Ten Hag’s fault. He was pretty new to the job and, at the time of taking over and in pre-season, Martial was fit and doing well.
“But this is just another reason why United will be looking towards the transfer market next time it comes around.”

Can Ten Hag rely on Martial?
Martial has proven that he can be a very effective forward in the Premier League.
It was only back in the 2019/20 season when he was able to score 17 times in the English top flight. During that campaign, the former Monaco man also managed to record 1.6 dribblers per game, which was the third-highest average in United’s squad (via WhoScored).
Ultimately, when Martial is fit and firing, he is the sort of attacker most managers would love to have.
Unfortunately for United, though, too often is Martial unavailable for selection. While you cannot question his ability, you can certainly highlight his injury record.
Looking at it, it probably makes the player someone Ten Hag cannot rely on for a whole season. Therefore, for that reason alone, United signing a new forward in the winter transfer window or next summer makes a lot of sense.
