When it comes to having an almost perfect balance of exciting, young and up-and-coming fighters as well as seasoned veterans who are at an elite level, British boxing right now and in the last few years has been in the healthiest state it has ever been in. Britain has had many boxing superstars over the years who have competed in different eras, such as Lennox Lewis, Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe, however, over the last few years, it has been constantly stacked with world-class talent all actively competing at once.
Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois are looked at as Britain’s big superstars, however, former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew doesn’t believe that any of the big heavyweight superstars are the biggest star in British boxing right now.
During a recent interview with CardPlayer.com, Bellew snubbed the likes of Fury and Joshua when naming who he thinks is the biggest star in British boxing right now, and instead named a 20-year-old exciting prospect who is currently climbing his way up the heavyweight ranks.

Tony Bellew Names Moses Itauma as the Biggest Star in British Boxing
Bellew has snubbed the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury for the 20-year-old
When people discuss the biggest stars in British boxing today, the first two names which are commonly brought up are Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, and rightly so. Fury and ‘AJ’ have represented Britain incredibly well on the global stage for their performances and dominance in the heavyweight division over the last decade, however, despite their incredible contributions to the heavyweight division and their phenomenal legacies, former WBC cruiserweight champion and fellow British boxing legend, Tony Bellew, doesn’t believe that either ‘The Gypsy King’ or Joshua are Britain’s top star right now.
During a recent interview with CardPlayer.com, Bellew named 20-year-old heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma as “the biggest star in British boxing,” snubbing the likes of Fury, Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Bellew said the following to CardPlayer.com:
“He’s (Moses Itauma) the biggest star in British boxing. He’s the future. He’s the future, that boy.”
The Slovakia-born Itauma is just 20 years old and 11 fights into his professional boxing career, however, lots of boxing fans and analysts, as well as his promoter Frank Warren, believe that the sky is the limit, and he can do special things. Itauma having the nickname ‘The Wrecking Ball’ is very fitting as he is exactly that. He is known for his lightning-fast start to fights, and seven of his 11 professional wins to date have come via first-round stoppage.

Although Itauma has shown a terrifying blend of technical excellence and power so far, there have been some concerns around his size and physicality, despite him being a big guy himself, given the size of some of the current top heavyweights. Despite voicing those same concerns, Bellew believes the 20-year-old won’t be held back and will do just fine.
“I always thought it might be a size that holds him back, but he’s good enough. Oleksandr Usyk has shown size isn’t as much. He’s a boy. I see that one.”
Itauma will compete in his 12th professional bout on Saturday, the 24th of May, against Mike Balogun at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, and if he is victorious, as many people are expecting him to be, he will move one step closer to being thrown in there against the biggest and most terrifying heavyweights in the world.
