Contract renewal talks between Serie A side Napoli and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hit a roadblock on the release clause issue.
According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport via Calcio Napoli 24, contract renewal negotiations between Napoli and Kvaratskhelia have reached an impasse. The club appears reluctant to accept the player’s agent’s request to set his release clause at €80 million, which can be activated next summer.
Napoli CEO Aurelio De Laurentiis along with sports director Giovanni Manna led talks with the Georgian star’s agent Mamuka Jugeli yesterday during a meeting. The Partenopei have tabled a contract worth €6 million in salary overall, bonuses included. The figures are set to increase yearly with the player potentially earning around €8 million net per season. This plan is likely to bridge the gap arising previously between the parties.
Napoli see Kvaratskhelia as an influential member of the squad after the departure of Victor Osimhen and they do not want to lose him for an insufficient amount. PSG’s offer of over €100 million was rejected last summer and settling at a €80 million release clause would make the 23-year-old prone to interest from foreign clubs.
