Ryan Kent future to be decided ‘by end of the year’

Rangers ‘should know by the end of the year’ whether winger Ryan Kent is going to remain at the club or depart, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old’s £18,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer, sparking speculation over where he is going to ply his trade next term.

What is the latest news involving Kent?

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has revealed contract talks with both Kent and star striker Alfredo Morelos, who is in an identical situation, ‘are happening’.

“With Alfredo and Ryan, those discussions are happening. The guys have got until the end of May in their existing contracts,” admitted Robertson in an interview with Rangers Review.

“We will try to engage with players when we want them to extend. Some will want to take time because it’s a big decision for them.”

However, a report from the Sunday Mirror (via the Daily Record) claimed that both Aston Villa and Leeds United were planning on scouting Kent in Rangers’ Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

The Villans have sacked former Gers manager Steven Gerrard since then, and only time will tell if the Premier League duo were impressed enough to make a move for Kent in January.

What has Jones said about Kent?

Jones has disclosed that clubs in Germany, as well as in England, are ‘tracking’ Kent and that his future should become clear by the end of 2022.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “I know he’s got a couple of clubs interested in him in England, there’s been a couple of clubs in Germany tracking him for a little while now as well too.

“So, we should know by the end of the year exactly which way this is going.”

Who could replace Kent at Rangers?

The Scottish Sun stated recently that Rangers were amongst ten clubs scouting Jerry Yates as he bagged a brace and provided an assist as Blackpool saw off Preston North End.

Yates is comfortable playing on the left-wing and upfront, meaning Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst may see him as the ideal candidate to replace Kent or Morelos.

Ally McCoist celebrates after scoring Rangers' second goal

Ally McCoist is Rangers’ club record goal scorer, but when did he leave the club as a player?

The 26-year-old has registered nine goals and two assists in 21 Championship appearances for Blackpool this season, making him the division’s joint-top scorer.

It’s believed that the Tangerines are set to demand £5 million to sanction the sale of their prized asset, a fee that should be within Rangers’ reach.
