Rennes have opened talks with Ligue 1 rivals Marseille over the potential signing of France U21 international left-back Quentin Merlin (23), according to a report from L’Equipe. Les Rouge et Noir are in the market for a senior left-back after parting ways with club captain Adrien Truffert, who joined AFC Bournemouth in a €17m deal.
The outlet adds that Rennes have ramped up talks to sign Merlin, who joined OM from Nantes – Rennes’ arch-rivals – eighteen months ago in a €10m move. Rennes have reportedly made contact with Marseille’s Sporting Director Medhi Benatia to understand Merlin’s exit terms. Merlin is currently tied with Les Phocéens over a contract set to expire in 2028. He featured 29 times for Roberto De Zerbi’s side last season.
