PSG ‘definitely in the race’ for £52m star at Parc des Princes

Paris Saint-Germain are “in the race” to sign Palmeiras striker Endrick, according to CBS Sports journalist Jonathan Johnson.

The 16-year-old is a highly-rated young talent, attracting interest from some of Europe’s top sides, and PSG are believed to be at the forefront in trying to make a deal happen.

What is the latest news involving Endrick?

ESPN outline both PSG and Chelsea as potential suitors for the Brazilian wonderkid, and the French side reportedly had a bid worth £39m rejected, although they later agreed to extend negotiations to meet the £52m release clause that is said to be in his contract.

It appears that the reigning Ligue 1 champions may be leading the way in completing the signing, as the youngster’s father, Douglas, told Canal do Nicola that they are the only side to make an official proposal, as things stand. (via 90min)

The same report states that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are also weighing up whether to make an offer, but they may have to move swiftly, as 90min previously detailed that a deal is expected to be finalised by the end of the year, although FIFA regulations prohibit Endrick moving internationally until he is 18.

Other English clubs are said to be considering a swoop, with Metro stating that Manchester United and Manchester City are among these hoping to secure his services, and so there could be a real transfer battle to seal the youngster’s signature in the coming months.

What has Johnson said about Endrick?

Johnson believes that PSG’s present financial situation may be a potential stumbling block in concluding a deal, in light of having to offer Kylian Mbappe the biggest ever contract for a sportsperson to tempt him into extending his stay at the Parc des Princes.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Johnson said:

“They’re definitely in the race, in the shake up for his signature, whether or not they’ll be able to compete and ultimately win the race for his signature, we’ll have to wait and see.

“I think Endrick is certainly someone who is high up on PSG’s list of priorities, given his potential, but the competition for his signature is going to be strong, and PSG are perhaps not in the strongest financial position at this moment in time, given how much it cost them to keep Kylian Mbappe.”

What is Endrick’s most likely destination?

Palmeiras academy director Joao Paulo Sampaio has made no secret of the unbelievable potential possessed by their prized asset, and told AS that he has a “champion mentality” and resembles Cristiano Ronaldo.

As such, it is only clubs that are competing at the very top table of European football who are likely to stand a chance in signing the emerging talent, with regular Champions League football an absolute necessity.

Given that PSG have already submitted an offer, this move could be tempting for Endrick, particularly because the club are almost guaranteed to be competing for major honours every season.

This would also be the case at Real Madrid and Barcelona, however the possibility of working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City can also not be sniffed at, as young players like Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden have developed so much under the Spaniard.

It remains to be seen which club can secure the services of Endrick, but it is evident that he will have a lot of offers to consider before making his ultimate decision.
