Napoli boss Antonio Conte praises Billy Gilmour after Palermo win

Serie A giants Napoli picked up a convincing win in the Coppa Italia as they beat Palermo 5-0 in what was a very dominating performance.

The Partenopei rotated their squad for the game against their southern rivals and one major change in the side was the inclusion of Billy Gilmour, who started the clash in midfield after having come off the bench in two games so far in the Serie A campaign.

It was his first start for the club and Conte seems to be quite impressed with his performance. During the post-game press conference, Conte spoke about the Scotsman.

He said, as relayed by TMW: “The performance convinced me, but it didn’t surprise me, I know him well from my experience in England. We really wanted him, he has certain characteristics, he’s a strong player, just like the other new players. You see Lobotka and Gilmour, you lose something in terms of structure, but we work hard on it, then Frank also did well with Billy.”

Conte clearly believes that Gilmour and Stanislav Lobotka can’t play together in the double pivot due to their similarity in profile and he would rather see them play alongside Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. The expectation could be that this could be a pattern, going forward.
