Manchester United are in the running to sign Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco next year, according to Italian outlet Inter Live.
The Red Devils presently have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as their left-back options, but the duo are yet to make an appearance this term.
Shaw suffered a calf injury on his return to pre-season training, while Malacia has not played since May 2023 due to a long-term knee issue.
Both players are due to return over the coming weeks, but their unreliability could urge the club to invest in a marquee left-back next year.
Dimarco is reportedly on the radar of United and Manchester City, but Inter won’t accept anything less than £67 million.
United unlikely to make a huge outlay on Dimarco
The 26-year-old started his career as a left-back, but he has established himself as a regular left wing-back under manager Simone Inzaghi.
Dimarco was brilliant for the San Siro giants last term with 14 goal contributions. He has carried over the form with two goal involvements this season.
The Italian has also been exceptional for his national team. He has registered a goal or an assist in each of his previous four appearances for the Azzurri.
Aside from his goal involvements, Dimarco has excelled with his distribution. He has a passing accuracy of almost 90 percent in Serie A this season.
Dimarco would be an ideal left-back option for manager Erik ten Hag as he can easily operate from an inverted position with his ball-playing skills.
However, a deal is unlikely to happen due to the huge asking price set by Inter.
The left-back will turn 27 in less than a month and there is no guarantee that he will quickly adapt to the intensity of the Premier League with United.
It would represent a risky buy, and INEOS are unlikely to pay over the odds. Despite his rich form, anything over £40m would prove an expensive deal.
