Liverpool have ‘chance’ of making surprise signing at Anfield – GiveMeSport

Liverpool could “pull a rabbit out of that hat” and make another signing before the transfer window’s closure at Anfield, journalist Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The Reds have made just one signing during the January market but could add another body to Jürgen Klopp’s squad before the deadline next Tuesday.

Liverpool transfer news – January

Liverpool’s only bit of business so far this month has been to secure the signature of PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo, who joined the Reds in a deal which could rise to £44.3m.

The Merseyside club have made a midfield addition their priority, but their top target in Borussia Dortmund and England teenager Jude Bellingham is a move that the club aren’t expected to pursue until the summer.

Klopp could have a predicament on his hands come the end of the season, with four midfielders expected to leave Anfield when their contracts expire in the summer, meaning that a signing in this area of the pitch is vital.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has recently told GiveMeSport that at the time of writing both Naby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to depart the six-time European Cup winners when the current campaign reaches its conclusion, further endorsing Liverpool’s need for reinforcements.

But Jones believes that the Reds could make another signing before the January window closes next week.

What has Jones said about Liverpool?

When asked if Liverpool could make one more addition before the transfer window’s deadline, Jones told GiveMeSport: “It’s Liverpool, there’s always a chance that they pull a rabbit out of the hat because they’ve got a really good track record of doing so and making signings.”

Who could Liverpool sign this month?

In terms of additions that could arrive at Anfield within the next week, the club have been linked with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Portugal midfielder Rúben Neves, with the Wolves captain having just 18 months remaining on his contract at Molineux and a departure in 2023 now seeming inevitable.

Meanwhile, the Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor has recently suggested to GiveMeSport that the Reds could turn to Neves’ teammate on both the club and international stage in Matheus Nunes, with the journalist stating that the former Sporting Lisbon man is the target who is most likely to join the club this month.

And Fiorentina and Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat has also been targeted by the Merseyside outfit ahead of a potential switch to the Premier League, but the 26-year-old seems set to join Barcelona having been spotted at the Nou Camp for their fixture with Getafe last weekend, according to reports.

However, whilst potential transfer targets for the remainder of the month seem thin on the ground, don’t be surprised if Liverpool go under the radar and announce another big signing before the transfer window’s conclusion.
