Inter’s Lautaro Martinez after derby loss to Milan: “I know I’m late compared to last year”

Serie A saw an impressive Milan derby play out at the San Siro, as Inter lost 2-1 to the Rossoneri and it is a bit of an upset.

Inter came into the game after an impressive performance against Manchester City and Milan came into the game, with Paulo Fonseca’s job on the line. A failure to win could have cost him his job, but the turnaround from the Milan has been impressive and Fonseca has probably saved his job.

Martinez did assist for Inter against Milan during the Federico Dimarco assist but his performance wasn’t great and he spoke to the press after the game. He admitted that he hasn’t been at his best and he would be the first player at the training pitch, while bearing responsibility of captain.

He told DAZN (as relayed by TMW): “We did not do the game we had prepared, we did not approach it well.

“We did a little better in the second half, but we have to improve a lot. Lower our heads and pedal to raise the level, I’m first as captain of the team. I know I’m late compared to last year, but I’ll be the first to arrive in Appiano to work and improve together with the team.”

Inter have looked fairly tired this season and they have already dropped seven points in the campaign and it remains to be seen if other clubs join the title race now.
