Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano responds to Everton links with “fantastic” title-winning manager

Fabrizio Romano has played down recent rumours and links involving Everton and a possible move to hire former Chelsea, Juventus and Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri.

Sean Dyche has endured a difficult start to the season with Toffees, so there’ll no doubt be plenty of fans wondering if a change in manager could be imminent in order to save their season.

However, for now at least, it seems there’s nothing confirmed on Everton’s interest in hiring Sarri, who remains out of work since leaving Lazio recently.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano said he was not aware of anything happening between Everton and Sarri, so it might be that EFC fans will have to wait a bit longer before seeing serious movement on possibly replacing Dyche.

“Despite being out of work for 18 months, Maurizio Sarri remains a fantastic manager,” Romano said.

“I’m sure he’s keeping himself updated, always on point, always active. He’s not kind of manager who leaves it all when he’s not working.

“About Everton, I’ve no confirmation of that story so far. No approaches, no talks.”

Everton surely need something to change quickly as Dyche seems to have lost the positive influence he’s previously had on the team.

The Merseyside outfit did well to escape relegation last season despite being docked points in the Premier League, but it seems they’re now finding it harder and must be serious candidates to go down unless something dramatic changes soon.

Sarri could be ideal, having done fine work throughout his career, winning the Europa League in his single season at Chelsea, and also lifting the Serie A title with Juventus the following year.
