Bild reports that Germany goalkeepers Alexander Nübel and Oliver Baumann will share the number one spot in the upcoming international break.
Since Marc-André ter Stegen’s knee injury, the question of who will replace him as been an important one. VfB Stuttgart’s Nübel and Hoffenheim’s Baumann have been the players who will fight it out to be Germany’s interim while ter Stegen recovers.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has now found a solution to give each keeper a fair chance. In the two upcoming international games, the duo will start a game each.
However, which game will be given to which keeper could be a sign of confidence in who will be the number one? The Germany goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronenberg is said to support Baumann for the starting role, while Nübel has time on his side and is seen as the successor to ter Stegen when he eventually retires.
Red Bull Salzburg’s Janis Blaswich is set to return to the national team as Germany’s third-choice goalkeeper. 1.FC Köln’s Jonas Urbig and SC Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu will not be included in the squad but will be fighting it out for a place in the World Cup in 2026.
