Chelsea target Wilfried Zaha would welcome a move to Stamford Bridge, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Ivory Coast international has been constantly linked away from Crystal Palace in recent years and is once again facing uncertainty over his future this summer.
What’s the latest news involving Zaha?
It’s almost an annual occurrence that Zaha gets linked with a move to a bigger club, although this window it surely has every chance of finally happening.
That’s because the 29-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his £130,000 per-week deal and has shown little signs that he’s likely to commit his future to his boyhood club.
As a result, Zaha is attracting interest from around Europe, with Jose Mourinho’s Roma keen on his services, as are Chelsea, despite the recent arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
The Blues have been linked with several wingers this summer, although Sterling remains their only attacking addition, with Thomas Tuchel in desperate need of further squad depth, with doubts over the futures of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
And Jones reckons that Zaha, who’s never played in Europe, would relish the opportunity to link up with the 2021 Club World Cup winners and turn out in the Champions League.
What did Jones say about Zaha?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea tried to sign him under the previous ownership and Zaha would welcome a move like this.
“I think it would be exciting to see Sterling and him in the same attack, and I think there are ways Tuchel could get that to open up.”
Why do Chelsea want Zaha?
Despite not getting the big move that he perhaps deserved since returning to Palace from Manchester United, Zaha has still proved himself as a consistent high level performer at Premier League level.
He’s just enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career, netting 14 top-flight goals, bettered only by eight players, and saw Palace claim a respectable 12th place finish under Patrick Vieira.
Overall, Zaha has scored 61 goals and laid on 41 assists in 277 Premier League appearances, highlighting his obvious quality, especially playing for a side who’ve never finished higher than 10th during his time at the club.
He has also struck more than ten goals against top six sides, which proves that he’s able to perform against the best and makes a strong case that he would be a shrewd signing for Chelsea, especially for a cut price given his contract situation.
